Dr. Erik Barrett is a medically licensed physician with specialty training in comprehensive eye care and ophthalmic surgery.  He was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana and attended North Central High School.  Dr. Barrett obtained his undergraduate degree from Indiana University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology, a minor in Spanish, and a business certificate in 1996.  While at IU, he accumulated several distinctions including;

  • Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society
  • Alpha Epsilon Delta Premedical Honor Society
  • Four-year Varsity Letterman in Men’s Tennis.
  • Big Ten Tennis Sportsman of the Year
  • Three-time Academic All-American
  • Tichenor Award recognizing the male athlete with the highest GPA at IU.
  • Big Ten Medal of Honor recognizing the top scholar/athlete at IU.
  • Sigma Chi Fraternity Scholarship and Social Chairman

Dr. Barrett then moved to Indianapolis where he received his M.D. from Indiana University School of Medicine.  While attending medical school, he was also involved in several volunteer programs including;

  • Riley Children’s Hospital “Take Five” Program
  • IUSOM Student Council Thanksgiving Food Drive
  • Freshman Orientation Peer Sponsor
  • Phi Rho Sigma Medical Society
  • IUPUI United Way Tennis Classic Volunteer

Following medical school, Dr. Barrett completed his one-year internship at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.  He then moved to Dallas, Texas where he   completed his residency in comprehensive ophthalmology at the University of Texas/Southwestern Medical Center.  While in residency, the bulk of his training was done at Parkland Health and Hospital Systems which is one of the most renowned hospital systems in the country.  During his training, Dr. Barrett attended multiple specialty seminars including;

  • Surgical refractive education seminars
  • Alcon laboratories international instrumentation seminars
  • Alcon laboratories phacoemulsification training seminars

Dr. Barrett has returned home to provide quality eye care for patients in Indianapolis, Fishers, Carmel and Noblesville.  He also takes time from his schedule to instruct residents at the IU medical center.  He remains committed to continuing his education as he is an active participant in several medical societies including;
